The critical reason why electronics fail is that water vapour can all too easily permeate into any enclosure, casing, fibre or component - once inside it condenses and causes problems.   Many successful liquid water barrier materials, such as silicon, cellulose, EVOH or PVOH, are virtually useless when it comes to barriers against vapour – which leads to catastrophic electronic failures.

The solution is Versaperm, which has designed and introduced a new generation of equipment that quantifies this issue for electronics, packaging, materials and enclosures. It can measure the vapour permeability of both complete products and components or material samples, it is both fast and accurate.

The Versaperm system was purpose designed for vapour permeability testing and gives results that are typically accurate in the parts per million (PPM) range and sometimes into PPB. It can measure multiple components, material samples, seals or enclosures at a time.

Environmental conditions can be controlled including temperature, pressure, partial pressure and humidity. The system can also work with virtually any gas or vapour including water vapour, hydrocarbons, solvents, and CO2. Versaperm also offers a laboratory service for companies that only need to test samples on an irregular basis.
